Roadside assistance, do you add it to your insurance policy or not?

I say no! Why? Because it’s part of an insurance policy, and what happens when you file a claim on an insurance policy? Your rates go up!

Now, allow me to explain. There are exceptions to this. For example, some companies will charge higher rates for your auto insurance and do not count claims like this against you. These are typically “captive” companies. A captive company would be a company who have agents that only sell policies from that company. An example would be Farmers, State Farm, Allstate, American Family, etc.

Many of the companies available from an independent agent will count this against you, but since their rates are so much lower (sometimes 40% lower), you will still have overall lower rates. To combat this, we suggest getting a AAA Membership for the roadside assistance. The additional cost is well worth the benefits it provides and they don’t report it as an insurance claim! With many plans available to suit your needs and perks you can enjoy while traveling or even locally, you are guaranteed to get your money’s worth out of it!
